If Jesus had healed
the lepers
and raised Lazarus
to nothing more
than death postponed,
to shadow of
unfinished life,
to hope
again disappointed,
who would he
have been?
I believe in
One God,
the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth . . .
in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only-begotten Son of God . . .
in the Holy Ghost the Lord,
and Giver of Life . . .
one holy catholic and apostolic Church . . .
one baptism for the remission of sins . . .
the resurrection of the dead . . .
the life of the world to come . . .
and in all that
this implies.
But your anguish
pours through me, my brother,
my sister
and I can't see
beyond this moment,
let alone to when
the twists and hanging ends
of God's unfinished tapestry
come together
and the finished work
reveals the pattern
he intended
this to serve.
